Mysterious glowing lights in the night sky of Mexico appeared exactly when the most powerful 8.1 magnitude earthquake hit the country.
A strange footage shows the glowing lights in the sky as the 8.1 magnitude earthquake filled the nation’s capital with tremors. The powerful earthquake causes buildings and lamp polls to shake that initially killed 6 lives.
Some explanations said that those lights appeared in the sky are called “earthquake lights”, unique flashes in the sky that occur during tremors.
Rescuers in southern Mexico are battling to remove all rubble and rubbish from buildings that collapsed during the earthquake. A hospital evacuated its patients and staff in Puebla after the earthquake struck and at least six people have been killed.
According to National Geographic in 2014, scientists wrote a paper suggesting those lights were caused by electrical properties of certain rocks.
According to Friedemann Freund, a senior researcher at NASA’s Ames Research Center said that those lights can be in many forms, shapes, and colors. Some theories that try to explain the phenomena said that Earth’s magnetic field is disrupted by tectonic stress that causes those lights.
But on Freund studies explained: ‘When nature stresses certain rocks, electric charges are activated, as if you switched on a battery in the Earth’s crust.
Rocks such as Basalts and gabbros who are present in the giant underground vertical structures in some areas are particular rocks that release electrical charges as their small crystal defects hit by a seismic wave, which explains the phenomena.
Scientists said that: ” ‘The charges can combine and form a kind of plasma-like state, which can travel at very high velocities and burst out at the surface to make electric discharges in the air’ creating the dramatic light shows.”
There are reports that small flames of light first appeared seconds before the 2009 earthquake in L’Aquila, Italy. There are reports before the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco of a faint rainbow of light.
This is not the first time these lights appeared. Watch the strange phenomena during the 8.1 magnitude earthquake in Mexico.
